This workshop - entitled ‘Intensifying the Envelope’ - was the focus of an Erasmus-sponsored exchange to L’Ecole d’Architecture de la Ville et des Territoires à Marne la Vallée in Paris, France. The project asked that we work in multi-disciplinary, international teams to develop facade components that could enable the passive environmental control of a hypothetical tower block in various cities around the world.
The work was developed and reviewed through 1:20 models and 1:1 drawings in section and elevation. I loved the experience of working with people with other expertise and experiences - and I have since replicated the methods we used in some of my own teaching practice in order to exploit the engagement with detail that is promoted by this technique.
